There are many products that can help you keep your pond water clean and healthy. I believe that the best way to have the pond you want is to be proactive, and then diligent in maintaining the health of your pond. Both of these can be done with a minimum of time and effort. The most important step in keeping your pond clean is to have a balanced ecosystem. Green water comes from too many nutrients in your pond. These nutrients feed algae. If you have enough bacteria colonies in your pond they will compete with the algae (

) for these nutrients. Every pond has beneficial bacteria in it, but when the nutrients and beneficial bacteria ratio is unbalanced you see the problems of dirty and unhealthy water. I know nutrients sounds good, but nutrients are from muck, rotting leaves, dead plants, sludge and fish waste just to name a few. So the key is to add beneficial bacteria to create the colonies you need and then again on a regular basis to maintain them. This is the foundation for a clean pond. Fine tuning comes next.
